A Handsome Stranger

There is an extra dog in this house.   I was surprised when I found out about that, because with 4 foster siblings, I already have a lot of company.  But, I really like the looks of this guy.  And he seems to like me too; he smiles right back at me every time!

The first time I saw him was in the spare bedroom, but the strange thing was, that every time I went around the door to find the rest of him, he disappeared!

Then, I found him again in foster mom's bedroom!

And as luck would have it, he appeared in the living room as well, although I had to do a bit of climbing to find him.  But, just like in the spare room, when I went around the sofa to sniff him "properly", he disappeared again.

I found my friend not long after I came to my foster home. Since then, foster mom has taught me that it is not polite to jump on dressers, or stand on sofas, so I don't do that anymore.  Wow, there are so many house manners to learn when one retires, but I'm getting the hang of it.  But don't despair, I've found other places I can meet my friend with all my feet on the ground.  He also appears in window panes, the oven door, and the in the door of the washer and dryer, so I can still see him whenever I want to.

Foster mom says if you want a dog who's handsome, sweet, with a touch of whimsy about him, I just might be your boy.

Until next time,
Winn

A Snuggling Dilemma

I'm not supposed to get on the furniture in my foster home.  It's a terrible dilemma for a hound who wants nothing more than to snuggle with my humans.  So every night, foster mom gets down on the floor and cuddles my head in her lap.  It's a wonderful time; I wriggle and roach and get my belly rubbed.

But last night, foster mom got busy and was late with snuggle time, and I had to take matters into my own paws.  So I sat on the floor (who said greyhounds can't sit) and leaned back into her lap to get my lovings.

I love getting scritches under my chin.

What I really long for is a home and sofa of my very own. If you'd like to spend your evenings snuggling with a sweet boy like me, what are you waiting for?  Go ahead and fill in that online application!

Hoping to meet you soon,
Winn

Play Date!

Hello again friends,

This weekend my foster mom had a friend come over with her 2 greyhounds for a play date!  It was cold and a little muddy from all the recent rain, but we had a good time!

First, I had to greet our guest.

Auntie Carroll knows how to scratch a hound just right!

Then we headed outdoors for a bit of fun.

My foster brother saw something through the fence, so we had to check it out!

Gratuitous close up of a handsome boy.

Then all the black dogs gathered on the porch for a photo.  Foster mom said it was a bit like herding cats.   I'm front and center.

Afterwards, we headed inside to get some water and COOKIES!  I've gotten really good about waiting in line for my turn when the treats are passed out.

I asked foster mom to take off my coat when we got inside, so I'm the naked hound.

Afterwards, it was time for a nap! When we sleep on our backs like this, it's called roaching!

I was worn out for the rest of the day!

I'll check back in again, once I've caught up on my rest!

Woof,

Winn

Learning the ropes of retirement.

Hello friends,

My name is Kiowa Top Win, but my foster mom calls me Winn.  Thanks for visiting my blog!  To tell you a little about me, I'm a little over 2 and half years old.  In my last race, I hurt my back and they decided to retire me.  Foster mom says I'm so active now, you'd never even guess I'd had an injury.

Last Friday seemed like just a regular day.  But then a big van pulled up outside our kennel in Daytona and 4 people from GEGR arrived.  They loaded me and 6 of my friends into the van and we took a loooong drive all the way to Maryland.

This is us all loaded up for the big trip!

Yes, that's me in the white muzzle.

When we got to MD, I met some more nice people, who gave me a bath, groomed me, microchipped me and took my picture.  Then, I got loaded up in another van with my buddy Split, and we drove a few hours south to Virginia where I live with my foster family.
Hey foster mom, you need any help with the navigation?

It was a long, tiring trip.  I got to my foster home and met the resident dogs (3 greyhounds and a schnauzer).  I tackled the stairs with just a little help and got settled on a dog bed to rest.

It's been a few days, and I'm getting settled into the routine here.  I sleep great, get along well with all my foster siblings, love to give and get kisses and I'm a huge snuggler. I really like my crate.  I stay in it when foster mom leaves for work.  I like to rest in it sometimes when she's home, and it's a great place to stash my toys!

One of my favorite things is my Kong.  Foster mom puts delicious food in it and freezes it, and when she leaves home, I have something to snack on for a good while.

Yes, I'm ready for some more lamb deliciousness please.

These days I'm keeping busy learning the ropes of retirement: stairs, toys, walking on leash, the sound of the cookie jar - there's lots to learn.  It can be exhausting!  I'm already getting skilled in the art of relaxing though.

Foster mom says I'm a super sweet, happy, affectionate boy, who would love to go for a nice walk or have some playtime, and then curl up with you to snuggle.  I hope you'll come back and see how I'm doing from time to time, and if you think we'd be a good fit, go ahead and fill in that online application.

Until next time,
Winn
